Mission Statement

The Hulsewé-Wazniewski Foundation (Hulsewé-Wazniewski Stichting, HWS) has as its aim the advancement of teaching and research in the archaeology, art, and material culture of China at Leiden University.

Origins and Scope

The Foundation was established in 1997, in commemoration of Prof dr A. F. P Hulsewé, Professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Leiden University from 1956 until 1975, and his wife, Ms M. M. Hulsewé-Wazniewski. Their generous donation of funding has enabled HWS to pursue its mission.

Governance

The Foundation is registered with the Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel, registration number 41169994). The Foundation's board structurally includes the Dean of Humanities at Leiden University and meets in person at least once every year, with online meetings and email correspondence for making time-sensitive decisions as the need arises.
